Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Tax Manager to join our dynamic tax team in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public accounting, with at least 5 years of experience in tax compliance, planning, and research. As a Tax Manager, you will play a key role in providing tax services to a diverse portfolio of clients, including individuals, corporations, partnerships, and S-corporations. This position offers the opportunity to lead a team, manage client relationships, and work on complex tax matters while contributing to the overall success of our firm.
Key Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance & Reporting:
- Oversee and manage the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns for a variety of clients, including individuals, corporations, and partnerships.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns in compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Review workpapers and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.

Tax Planning & Consulting:
- Provide tax planning and consulting services to clients, helping them optimize tax strategies and minimize liabilities.
- Advise clients on various tax matters, including mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, tax credits, and international tax issues.
- Identify and implement tax-saving strategies for clients in accordance with tax law changes.

Client Management & Relationships:
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships by providing proactive tax advice and excellent customer service.
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients, addressing their concerns and providing timely solutions to complex tax issues.
- Lead client meetings and discussions, explaining tax issues in a clear and concise manner.

Team Leadership & Development:
- Supervise, mentor, and train junior staff and senior associates, providing guidance and review of their work.
- Conduct performance reviews and assist in the development of career progression plans for team members.

Research & Technical Knowledge:
- Stay up to date on current tax laws, regulations, and IRS rulings to ensure accurate advice and compliance.
- Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues and provide clients with practical solutions.
- Assist in the development of internal processes and policies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Special Projects:
- Lead or assist with special projects, including tax audits, tax provision work, or other ad hoc consulting projects.
- Work closely with other departments (audit, advisory, etc.) to provide comprehensive services to clients.
Qualifications:

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s in Taxation or an MBA with a focus in tax is a plus.

Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in tax in public accounting.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Experience with tax software (e.g., ProSystem fx, CCH, Thomson Reuters) is preferred.

Certifications:
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license is required.
