This position reports directly to the Chief Estimator of the Commercial Pre-Construction department and will work closely with both the Operations Team and estimating support staff.

Job Description:

  • Manage the bid recap process from start to finish, including writing proposal letters and completing bid forms and breakouts

  • Attend bid review meetings prior to the submission of proposals

  • Track and incorporate all addenda, scope changes, and breakout requirements into estimates in a timely manner

  • Communicate with internal stakeholders regarding project specs, scope, reports, value engineering opportunities, timelines, and bid-related items

  • Verify system specifications summaries for accuracy

  • Lead assigned take-off teams through project page turns to communicate expectations and ensure complete, accurate take-offs

  • Perform quantity takeoffs of equipment and fixtures; thoroughly review project plans and specifications to understand full project scope

  • Identify missing labor, material, and scope pricing

  • Review vendor and subcontractor scope letters for accuracy; maintain communication to gather missing pricing and required breakouts for timely bid completion

  • Coordinate the interface between sales and estimating to maximize the productive use of estimating capabilities in support of sales and marketing goals

  • Utilize market condition insights, knowledge of client needs and competition, and internal resource availability to manage workload effectively

  • Develop, monitor, and manage estimating department processes and procedures to ensure high productivity with minimal risk

  • Operate with limited supervision and broad general guidance

  • Perform additional duties as needed to support departmental goals

 
 

 

Job Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical contracting as an Estimator or in a similar role

  • Knowledgeable in piping, plumbing, and sheet metal systems

  • Familiarity with system costs across various building types and applications

  • Ability to generate conceptual estimates and budgets from simple mechanical system narratives for design-build projects

  • Experience participating in construction project interviews and presentations

  • Deep understanding of estimating strategies, contract types, and how corporate objectives influence estimating practices

  • Ability to read and interpret contract documents, plans, and specifications

  • Coursework or hands-on experience with basic mechanical systems and engineering concepts

  • Proficiency with computerized estimating systems (experience with ESTMEP for PVF take-offs and BlueBeam for drawings preferred)

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel
