What You Will Do: The Senior Open-Source Database Administrator will lead the deployment, administration, and optimization of open-source database platforms, especially PostgreSQL, MySQL, as well as MongoDB and MariaDB

 

How You Will Contribute:

  • Provide database management , including installation, configuration, and maintenance of open-source databases to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Manage and optimize cloud-hosted databases (OCI, AWS, Azure) and lead migrations from on-premises to cloud or cloud-to-cloud transitions.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, optimize queries, and ensure database efficiency.
  • Implement and enforce database security policies, encryption, and access controls to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Develop and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to support database needs and best practices.
  • Leverage automation tools, Ansible, Terraform, Bash, or Python, to streamline database operations.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and best practices.

 

Ideal Candidate: Extensive experience managing PostgreSQL and MySQL databases on-premises and in cloud environments such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or Microsoft Azure, with a focus on security, performance, and scalability.

 

What You Bring:

  • 8+ years of database administration experience with PostgreSQL and 3+ years MySQL, MongoDB or MariaDB.
  • In-depth PostgreSQL experience at the enterprise level and experience with Postgres in AWS 
  • Expertise in cloud-based database management (OCI, AWS, Azure). (3+ years of work in AWS)
  • Strong Linux administration skills for managing database servers.
  • Proficiency in SQL performance tuning, query optimization, and index strategies.
  • Adept at implementing high-availability solutions, including clustering and replication.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for diagnosing root cause of issues.
  • Experience providing on-call support for mission-critical systems.
  • Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines for database integration.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Present as confident, engaging and able to drive the conversation.
  • Must be able and willing to work shift schedules, including on-call.

 

It’s a PLUS if You Also Have:

  • Experience working with BI, ETL or Data Warehouse tools such as Qlik, Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.
  • Experience automating database deployments or maintenance using Ansible, Terraform, or Kubernetes.
  • Certifications in OCI, AWS, Azure, or database technologies.
  • Experience migrating Oracle databases to PostgreSQL.
 

LOCATION: Local to Pittsburgh, PA or be willing to relocate prior to joining. May consider 100% remote for an exceptional candidate

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

CITIZENSHIP: Must be a US Citizen due to regulations related to the nature of the work
