Our client, a leading publicly traded Fintech company, is looking for a stock equity plan manager who will handle employee stock ownership programs at the company, track who gets stock options or shares, when employees can use them, and ensure all the paperwork and taxes are handled correctly.
Essentially, they're the person who makes sure employees get their promised ownership stake in the company and that everything follows tax and securities laws.
The accounting side involves:
**Journal Entries & Expense Recognition**
- Recording stock compensation expense each month/quarter
- Tracking fair value calculations for equity grants
- Managing deferred compensation liabilities
**Reports They Generate:**
- Quarterly equity compensation expense reports for financial statements
- Tax reporting (1099s, W-2 adjustments for employees)
- Cap table reconciliations showing ownership percentages
- Vesting schedules and outstanding grant summaries
- SEC compliance reports (if public company)
**Month-End/Quarter-End Tasks:**
- Calculate and book compensation expense based on vesting
- Update grant databases and reconcile to general ledger
- Prepare equity rollforward schedules for auditors
- Track forfeited/expired options for accounting reversals
This is internal accounting work - they're not investment advisors like at Morgan Stanley. They're doing the back-office number crunching to make sure the company's books properly reflect the cost and liability of giving employees equity, and ensuring everyone pays the right taxes when shares vest or get exercised.
