Job Title: Sign Structure Superintendent
Location: Rancho Cucamonga, CA (Travel Required Within Southern California)
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and organized Sign Structure Superintendent to manage and oversee all field operations related to the erection and maintenance of overhead, cantilever, and ground-mounted sign structures for public and private infrastructure projects. Based out of Rancho Cucamonga, the Superintendent will coordinate multiple crews, ensure compliance with Caltrans and Cal/OSHA regulations, and deliver high-quality work on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise all aspects of field construction for sign structure projects, from mobilization to final inspection.
- Manage multiple field crews and foremen to ensure safe, efficient, and timely project execution.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, structural plans, and shop drawings to ensure accurate installations.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, inspectors, and vendors to align schedules and logistics.
- Enforce job site safety protocols in compliance with Cal/OSHA standards; lead toolbox talks and hazard assessments.
- Monitor project timelines, labor, equipment, and materials usage to meet budget goals and reduce downtime.
- Perform quality control inspections to ensure adherence to plans, specs, and regulatory requirements (e.g., Caltrans specs).
- Handle field reporting, including daily logs, safety reports, and change order documentation.
- Assist with scheduling crane operations, traffic control setups, and lane closures.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the field and office management.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in sign structure or structural steel installation, with 3+ years in a superintendent or senior foreman role.
- In-depth knowledge of Caltrans standards, MUTCD, and California public works project procedures.
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Proficient in reading construction drawings and managing field logistics.
- Experience managing traffic control operations and lane closures per local DOT guidelines.
- Valid California Driver’s License (CDL Class A preferred).
- OSHA 30 certification required; additional certifications such as NCCCO, CPR/First Aid, and rigging safety a plus.
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
Work Environment:
- Primarily field-based role throughout the Southern California region, including freeways and city roadways.
- Occasional night and weekend work depending on project requirements.
- Office reporting location is in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.
