Highway Design Engineer – NJ Locations

We are seeking a highly skilled Highway Design Engineer with 7–15 years of professional experience to join our growing transportation engineering team. This is a great opportunity to work on complex, high-profile roadway and highway projects across New Jersey and the New York metro area.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support highway and roadway design projects from concept through final design.

  • Prepare design plans, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with NJDOT and NJTA standards.

  • Utilize InRoads and OpenRoads design software to deliver high-quality, constructible designs.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, CAD technicians, and field staff to ensure accurate and efficient project delivery.

  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and quality oversight for junior engineers and designers.

  • Coordinate with DOT officials, municipal representatives, and clients to address project requirements and approvals.

  • Contribute to proposal development, project scoping, and business development efforts.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey (required).

  • 7–15 years of hands-on highway and roadway design experience.

  • Strong proficiency with InRoads and/or OpenRoads design platforms.

  • Prior, direct project experience with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and/or the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of AASHTO, MUTCD, and state/local roadway design standards.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface directly with clients and agencies.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s a plus).
