Vacuum Systems Engineering Technician – Industrial Plasmas
We’re developing next-generation plasma and vacuum technologies — and looking for a Vacuum Systems Engineering Technician who enjoys working directly with PhD engineers to bring research concepts into functional, production-ready systems.
This is a hands-on, build-and-test position focused on assembling, troubleshooting, and improving high-vacuum systems used in plasma research and manufacturing. You’ll be part of a team where theory meets real hardware — helping to turn R&D breakthroughs into working prototypes and commercial products.
What You’ll Do
- Assemble, test, and maintain high and ultra-high vacuum systems, chambers, and components.
- Work closely with PhD engineers to execute experiments, prototype builds, and system upgrades.
- Perform leak detection, troubleshooting, and repairs to ensure vacuum integrity and reliability.
- Wire and integrate vacuum instrumentation, sensors, and digital control systems.
- Maintain detailed build logs, test data, and equipment documentation.
- Support transitions from R&D prototypes to production-ready systems.
What We’re Looking For
- AS or BS Mechanical, Electrical or related technical field or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with vacuum systems, instrumentation, or related technology.
- Familiarity with pumps (rotary, turbo, cryo), gauges, fittings, and helium leak detection.
- Comfortable using CAD software and data-logging or control interfaces.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail in precision assembly.
- U.S. Citizenship required (due to project and facility requirements).
