Primary Function:
The General Electrician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, adjusting, testing, and installing electrical equipment and circuits, while ensuring proper functioning and safety of all systems.
Tools & Equipment:
Uses hand tools, power tools, test instruments, motor/controller test equipment, pipe threaders, and safety equipment.
Materials:
Works with electrical hardware, lubricants, coolants, insulation, wires, solder, tape, conduit, fittings, switches, and relays.
Source of Supervision:
Reports to Shift Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follows prints, diagrams, and instructions to perform maintenance tasks.
- Carries out electrical maintenance including testing, installation, repair, and cleaning of equipment.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains motors, motor controllers, and circuits.
- Makes periodic equipment condition reports to supervision.
- Works on live electrical lines as required.
- Installs electrical conduit, fittings, switches, and connections.
- Ensures safe work practices and uses appropriate safety devices.
- Troubleshoots and analyzes electrical issues.
- Makes emergency repairs to minimize plant downtime.
- Works in both shop and field environments.
- Keeps records of work completed in log form.
- Maintains clean work areas.
- Crane Repairpersons may be reassigned to General Electrician tasks when necessary.
