Job description:

A growing and respected insurance organization is seeking an experienced Insurance Senior Accountant to join its accounting and finance team in Clearwater, FL. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive environment.

Youll apply both GAAP and Statutory (SAP) accounting principles to ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and analysis across a diverse portfolio of insurance operations. The position offers excellent visibility, career growth potential, and frequent interaction with senior management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and journal entries for general ledger accounts.
  • Ensure accurate recording of earned, assumed, and ceded premiums.
  • Prepare NAIC quarterly and annual filings in compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Produce reinsurance settlement statements and calculate quarterly premium taxes across multiple states.
  • Conduct variance and ratio analysis; present findings to senior leadership.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and intercompany loans to ensure data integrity.
  • Prepare balance sheets, P&L statements, and management reports to summarize financial performance.
  • Audit financial transactions, ensuring compliance with GAAP, SAP, and internal policies.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, including automation where possible.
  • Assist with regulatory filings and tax reporting at the federal, state, and local levels.

Qualifications:

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting (required).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 4 years of accounting experience.
    • At least 2 years in the insurance industry.
    • Minimum 2 years of statutory accounting experience.
    • Minimum 4 years of GAAP accounting experience.
  • Certifications: LOMA or similar insurance designation is an asset.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; strong skills in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Experience with QuickBooks, Access, or Clearwater Analytics is a plus.
    • Familiarity with commission reporting systems such as APL preferred.
